Aciphex

Suggested Use:

Aciphex is used for gastric, esophageal or duodenal ulcers. It is also a commonly prescribed medicine for patients suffering from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (characterized by a regurgitation of stomach acid into the oesophagus, causing heartburn) that might lead to ulceration or gastric erosion. Aciphex is also prescribed for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome patients who have a tumor that promotes acid secretion in the stomach. The ulcerative action of Helicobacter pylori infections which are treated with antibiotics can be considerably diminished with the help of Aciphex.

Before Using This Product:

Talk to your doctor before you use Aciphex in following cases:

• if you have allergy to Aciphex or such drugs as Prevacid, Prilosec, Protonix. It is important to warn your doctor if you know that you might develop allergic reaction to any medicine at all.
• if you take any prescription or over the counter drugs, dietary supplements, minerals or vitamins as they can interact with the drug or reduce its effectiveness. Your physician will most likely have to consider changing the dosage of Aciphex or watch for your reaction to the drug, if you take one of the following medications: Gengraf (cyclosporine), Lanoxicaps (digoxin), Nizoral, Extina, Xolegel, or Kuric (ketoconazole).

• don't take Aciphex during pregnancy, nursing a baby or if you are planning to have a baby without consulting your doctor and getting his professional approval.

Prescription:

It is important to take Aciphex precisely in concordance with the dosage and the period of time that has been appointed by your doctor. Even if the medicine helps you relieve symptoms and feel better much before you should stop taking Aciphex, continue taking the medicine and do not stop the treatment. Your physician is the one who determines when the treatment is over.
As a rule Aciphex is prescribed for 1 to 2 months. You might be given a refresher course of treatment if more treatment is required.

Warnings:

As mentioned above, Aciphex cannot be used by people who can develop allergic response to Aciphex or other medicaments like Prevacid, Prilosec, Protonix and Nexium.
Aciphex and antibiotics are also an effective combination which can relieve ulcer symptoms in some medical cases. However, professional advice and supervision of your doctor is strongly recommended.

Aciphex can neutralize gastric acid and promote healing even before your treatment is over, but you should continue taking the medicine and should not change your dosage or time of use.

Unwanted Adverse Reaction:

Most patients that take this medicine do not experience any unwanted side effects. However, a headache might be developed in rear cases. If the headache is severe and persists for several hours, contact your doctor immediately.
If any severe conditions or pains are developed while taking Aciphex, seek professional medical help. Urgent help is required in case if symptoms of cobalamin deficiency are discovered in the course of a prolonged medical treatment of more than three years. The symptoms include: loss of energy, tongue ache, numb sensations in the upper and lower limbs.

Mixing with Other Drugs and Foods:

Aciphex intensifies Warfarin's action. Warfarin is used as an anti-coagulant drug for medical conditions involving formation of blood clots in the blood. Therefore, Warfarin and Aciphex should be mixed together with a lot of caution and only with doctor's permission.
Aciphex may interfere with the inhibition of cyclosporine by the liver, which may result in high content of cyclosporine in the body and cyclosporine poisoning.
Since the main aspect of Aciphex's action is the decrease of gastric acidity, it might also decrease the intake of food or other medicines by the body. Therefore Aciphex might decrease the intake of a whole number of medicines, including: Nizoral, Lanoxicaps and others.
